Thanks Nikonian Ill give it a try if i ever get spare time. I see this goes back to 2007 I wonder if there has been any improvements in the program.?? I see also Helicon is mentioned I wonder where its development is at as well as it is a pay/buy program - so probably more akin to upgrades since 2007 5-6 years is a long time in which hopefully some newer versions have come along. Any thoughts ?? or Comparisons ??

As I recall, it's a Windows only program-- or at least it was when I was "buying". I looked into this one, Zerene, and Helicon-- and went with Helicon. All of them, in my opinion, require other work "post-stack". Here's one from yesterday

Thanks Tonto er Loneranger.... oh, different story any way thanks
I saw a video on the Helicon where they showed it being used tethered to a laptop with the software controlling the focus steps which is awesome in a fixed environment like a studio setup. Field-focusing multiple shots is a different story altogether. Was your photo done in the field ?? Then manually pieced together in Helicon??

I have not tried tethering, although I've seen some remarkable results. I have done both field and studio images. The Camellia was done in my "studio" which consists of: backdrop, tripod with focusing rail, and single light stand. This wildflower was taken in the Columbia River Gorge. The bloom is smaller than a dime. If you look closely, there is some movement between "slices", but considering the challenges, I think it's pretty good.

I don't stack, every now and again I will steal an eye or the leading edge of a bug from another photo but that is pretty rare.
I shoot handheld in the field so I do not have enough control of both alignment and focus graduation for stacking.
