Holy Cross Church

These photos were taken of, and in, the Holy Cross Church in Manhattan. What appears to be smoke in the first two images is actually condensation rising from manhole covers in the street. C&C welcomed. 8-)

"Holy Cross Church is a Roman Catholic church located at 329 West 42nd St in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan, near Times Square and across the street from the Port Authority Bus Terminal.

The Holy Cross Parish was established in 1852. In 1854, a new building was constructed and dedicated, but lightning struck this second structure in 1867, and the ensuing fire severely damaged it. The current church was constructed to a design by Henry Engelbert and completed in 1870. It is notable as the oldest building on 42nd Street.

Since 1900, Holy Cross Church has worked with politicians, police and community groups to combat poverty, crime and drugs in the neighborhood. The parish is especially associated with the popular ministry of the Reverend Francis P. Duffy."

Hi Bmac

The second image appears to be leaning backwards - was this taken close up?

What I would say though is that with the "blurb" the shots are fantastic
I particularly like the shot of the whole isle and chancel of the church, it ha a lovely warm feel to it

Many thanks for sharing this

Best wishes

Karl

Thank you Karl, glad you enjoyed the photos and the blurb. Yes, that second image was taken close up at 35mm. It's more of a record shot than anything else. 8-)

Great idea! What would you think is the best way of doing that?
