(And any other real Mini owners) Subject: My beautiful Mini.
Yes, BEAUTIFUL! Not many Minis have earned that adjective, but dammit, mine did. And after I got done with the mods, fast with great handling and brakes -- and terrifying torque steer. I'll dig out the pics tomorrow, and you'll be consumed by envy.
Looking forward to seeing the pics.
Mine is a 1275 spi cooper
It's been lowered with hi lo's
Uprated red spot rubber cones and Gaz adjustable shocks
Fitted with 165-50-12 Yokohama tyres on Revolution wheels
Green stuff shoes at rear and green stuff pads at front help it to stop better.
Daft 2 and 3/4 inch twin DTM exhaust, sounds very angry :)
Enjoyed a few mini track days at castle combe where it belongs.
Embarrassed many far newer and more powerful cars at roundabouts and twisty roads where I just don't slow down but just stay at the speed limit ;)
Did I mention mid life crisis :D
Had a busy day and going out tonight, so no pix ntil later. HOWSOMEVER I will call out your next mod: twin Weber DCOE13s. Hooeee they make a difference! A little difficult to keep in tune, but nowhere near as infuriating as SUs. I tried the orange bags first, then went to red as you have. As I recall the only useful brake option then was Ferodo, but then 47 years have blurred the details a bit. But I'll remember the car longer than I will my first (girlfriend). Along with the pics I'll you the heartbreaking fate of my Mini.
Here they are: My Little Honey's pix. My wheels were Mini-lite, the tires (notice correct spelling) Dunlop; the carb I already mentioned was 45DC0e 13; botice particularly the dashboard and instruments. I didn't like the instruments (or lack thereof) so I pulled the dashboard for a template to cut a new one out wood. That way I could put in whatever I liked. After a long search I found a Porsche which had swapped ends (naturally) and was totalled but with an unmarked cabin. I bought the instruments and after hole-sawing my brains out got them installed in the wood piece, put that back in the car, and Voila! had something unique in the Mini-world. I'm including a couple of pictures that show where and how MLH lived.
Where and how she died is another tale altogether. My youngest son was showing signs of mental disability (he's now a totally lost schizophrenic) and I needed to raise money for his care. The Mini was not alone (see last pic) and was for fun only so I decided to sell it and one of the wagons. The car was well known at Hollywood Sports Cars and when I called them to tell the sad news, they said we know a guy that will snap it up for your price; he'll be at your place tonight. He was and he did. A friend in another Mini brought him, and on their way home they chose to take Mulholland Drive (a well-known in USA smooching and dicing road). They didn't smooch, but they diced; the new guy took MLH over the side and both of them went to Heaven. I know her soul awaits me.
Very nice looking car indeed.
The wheels in the first pic look like Dunlop D1's which are very sought after over here.
The bulkhead cutout to allow the fitting of the Webber carb is no longer allowed due to new laws on modification here :(
All in all a car I would love to own, though with our weather one that would spend more time in doors than out where it belongs.
Thanks for sharing these pictures :)
