There are two rough-legged hawks hanging out in Ellensburg, WA (I'm told they're only here for a few months each year) and I was lucky enough today to capture these two images. If anyone would like to fix the color of the snow, I'd be appreciative :) Also attached, the always-adorable kingfisher. (and these are seriously cropped images, as I only have the 55-250 kit lens.)
Here is my try at the first one
and the second

How lucky are you Linda!!! Nice shots. Tim beat me to the fix.:) The Kingfisher is a very nice shot too! All well done.

Thank you hangman! And thanks Erv, as well. Appreciate it much!
One more shot, taken through the car windshield. Lots of edits and cropping. Really want that 100-400 mm lens!

Hi Linda! Have you looked at the Sigma 150-500? That will be my next lens. I see some awesome shots on here with that lens, and the price is pretty good.

Thanks for sharing Linda, it is not easy spotting those birds and some of my pictures with the 100 400 L is are not as good. Bee

Thanks for mentioning that one, Erv. I will look into it!

Thanks Bee. I was with a birder friend who knows exactly where they hang out! Do you get better results with your 100-400 if conditions are lighter? Seems l read that. Much research to do. Thanks for viewing!
I ran the first photo through several programs and while I was able to reduce the overall blue cast to some degree I wasn't able to get it white. SUGGESTION: Next time you are taking photos in bright sun on snow adjust your white balance. Aim away from the main subject and hit your WB once then move back to the subject. Your results should be much better.

I think my options with WB on my Canon T3i just involve choosing from a list (tungsten, daylight, shade, etc), but I will look into that. Thanks for suggesting and for your efforts!
Yes, the close up of the ice was taken in the canyon and yes you do get better pictures when the sun is out or anyway I do and of course earlier in the day. Dave has the Sigma 50-500, but he gets really good pictures with almost anything. I have the Sigma 150-500, which is good, but not as good as the 50-500. The 100-400 works well with the extender, but manual focus unless you tape off the electrodies which I have been afraid to do. Bee
The first two shots are nice (and good catches!) but I really like the composition of the third. Made that little kingfisher a squat cartoon character. I love it!
I really like the little king fisher. Thanks for sharing. Bee
