I have a few of those and you are right, they are hard to get to stand still, I'll try striking up a conversation next time. Nice shots.

Another great set of macro photographs. You have the touch.
This is a one node ant. The node is on the petiole between the thorax and abdomen. If you keep doing ants you will come across a two node ant.
You can often obtain a good pose of ants when they are feeding on extrafloral nectaries of plants. These nectar producing glands can occur on different parts of the plant other than in the flower. If you observe insects feeding on small drops of plant secretions this is an indication of where nectaries are located. Watch ants on plants and they will find these nectaries locations so you can set up for a pic as they feed. Of course you can place a single drop of sweet liquid with a pipette or eye dropper to attract an insect to obtain a pose. Artificial but you have seen pics using this technique so it works.
If you know the plant you can look up where the nectaries occur and be ready.

thanks for the info, Professor. As soon as i get plants i will watch for the nectar, i see these ants on some old vine flowers in the summer(i do not know the name) tom
