We already have a Post your SPIDER macros here thread at http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-25086-1.html .

Should we also have other specialty threads? Like:
"Ants, aphids, and Springtails", or
"Mushrooms, Toadstools, and Fungus", or
"Bees, Wasps, and Flies", or
"Butterflies & Moths"?

Please suggest other group topics, and comment on group threads suggested.

A specialty thread would be for a few of your best images, not all. I have hundreds of spider images, but only a few posted to the "Spider Macro" thread. Maybe we should change the thread title to "Post your Best SPIDER Macros here".

It's an idea Douglass, I think many of us like the individual posts because we get feed back that way. I do think that it was interesting that we have had a few good discussions on the forum about diffusers and flash solutions lately, I think that a lot of information was shared, I know that Martin and a few others are going to get started on reversed and stacked lenses, and there will be an opportunity to share more information. I don't know if you can format something that won't end up being lost several pages back on the discussion board.

LOL I dread Martin with a stacked lens... I am sure that his work will be incredible and shame the rest of us. He works very hard at it.

Geff - I anchored the "Macro Gear" thread so it is always at top of discussions. I do not want to do the same for specialty threads like spiders, or ants, or butterflies, but I can anchor a thread that lists the specialty threads.

I am building my own softbox for stacked lens and/or reverse-mounted macro. I now need a new Kalt L-bracket & another SB-600 for my new set-up, and I am seriously considering another Nikon body as well. That way I do not have to break-down my 105G macro set-up.

My homemade bracket is every bit a Wimberley F-2 system except for the way that it mounts to the body, instead of the very expensive mounting brackets I used a straight bracket but to stop the camera from sliding on the bracket I had to really torque it down. Since then that 50D body has not come off that bracket, it is dedicated to macro and reverse lens, I use my 60D for everything else.

A tip about stacked and reversed lenses, I like that 57mm lens because the rear element is huge, it makes a difference, I think that the shorter focal lengths especially the f/2.8s have not only a much smaller rear element but that there is also a significantly more pronounced curvature to the glass that adds a bit of distortion.

Geff's concern is mine (No not Martin reversing lenses!)-- the getting lost part. Posting on the "Images" forum is worthless: some good stuff gets overlooked-- I like the individual posting... it is a factors in "priority viewing."

I agree with the guys, kinda like it the way things are. An Ideal maybe, have a Best of the Macro forum and plant that at the top page. It would be up to Douglass to pull just a few every month and place in that thread. But help show case a large variety of insects, bugs, spiders, ect.. for new comers to see

I agree with the guys too and think fstop22's idea here is great. It could even be a best of the month forum. I like seeing it all in one place, but a monthly review of the Best would be nice to look forward to each month, and a nice recognition of achievement for those who were selected (and it would give Douglass something else to do to keep him out of trouble :) .)

My Parole Officer reminded me that I am not qualified to determine "Best" of anything.

Oops! Sorry. I thought you could still determine the "Best" ... but not the "Best of the Best". Oh well. :(
