Some of my best bee shots ever...

I was really struggling this morning, I just could not seem to get the flash to behave, shots were either far to dark or burned out or... just plain yellow, but I am glad I stuck with it because the keepers I got are probably some of my best shots of honey bees.

The first shot is just a pic to show the attraction bees have to sugar water.... the rest are shot with the 57mm/100mm stacked set up at f/22. If people are wondering why I crop off the bee, I don't, these images are uncropped... as far as getting close to the bees, I think at one point I had three or four crawling around on my lens...

Anyway, I almost didn't shoot this morning because I did not want to bore everyone with a bunch of bee shots, but I am kinda glad that I did.

57-mm is a strange focal length for a lens!

A 57-mm lens revere-mounted to a 100-mm lens = 100/57 = 1.75/1 magnification.
Add 1 mag for macro MFD = 2.75/1 = 2.75x life-size. Are these numbers correct?

Yes, I shot on the smaller end of the magnification, that lens is the old Konica Hexagon 57mm f/1.4, it was probably purchased in the very early 70's, it was on my dad's camera back when I was in HS.

Number 4 and 5 for me. No hot spots at all. Your actually getting pretty good DOF when they are lined up with the lens.. Lots of fine detail. I keep hearing shallow DOF but these shots have the depth minus the antennae. I'm building a little longer diffuser box incase I need it. Four days and counting.
