Thanks Hangman, think I'll try a piece of the buffer material. Nice design on the box.

The results speak for themselves.

Thanks for the suggestion. It's nice to have a known, consistent diffusion material.

I've been using packing material that was used to protect a digital TV I purchased last year.

Same material available at many grocery stores, dollar stores, and of course WalMart (lowest prices I have found).

Thanks so much for the macro Diffuser model. I built mine, but with a different delivery system.

It is a coincidence that you posted this because I too built a new diffuser this evening. After reading the article on how much of an impact that flash duration has on stopping motion blur, I have felt that my flash head was set back to far away from my diffuser face, so I made a new one that is much more shallow. I shot a few shots with it and am hopeful that it has enabled me to reduce my power settings by just about 1/2 of the power that I was using before. It is important to note that for those of you using your hot shoe that the longer boxes are definitely the right way to go, with my bracket I can park my flash head just about anywhere I want just over a foot away from the camera body so it works.
