The West end of Yellowstone Parks Lamar Valley was closed to hiking off the main roadways yesterday due to a female grizzly bear coming out of hibernation. I didn't see her myself but did see her tracks. The rangers posted these warning signs on all the pullouts in the area to keep would be hikers from getting off the roads and possibly encountering the bear when they least expected it. The unseasonably warm weather was a likely cause as there is only about 8 inches of snow in the Lamar right now.
Note the written date of closure.

Wow .... Now that's unusual ... in January and the sow was out and about. Only 8 inches of snow instead of 8 feet!

Miss Yellowstone, worked there 9 years. I lived in the park the first 2 of those and in Gardiner the rest of the time. It is truly an amazing place and I so enjoy your posts from there.

Its amazing how many people don't. These signs are common in the Spring and Fall, very unusual in the winter months though.
