Very Nice, One of my favorite bugs
One small thing I find real interesting (there are so many) about insects with compound eyes....quite often there are bits of material simply stuck on directly on the insect's eye! And they don't seem to be bothered by something right on their eye! Vive la difference! Cool animals for sure...
Most insects with compound eyes are most likely not aware when debris covers a few cells of their eyes. Jumping spiders, on the other hand, are fastidious about keeping clean, their huge, simple eyes. Several videos of jumpers show them "brushing" their eyes with their hairy front legs.
I have learned to water-mist clean the eyes of captive (or dead) dragonflies before high magnification captures of their faces.

These flies feed on plant nectar and pollen and the debris is appeared to be grains of pollen. If the specimen is cooled and inactive I use a very same artist brush and try to clean the insect of debris if possible.
Another fine set of photographs.

This forum is getting REALLY good. I leave for a couple of months and everyone leaps WAY ahead of me. I can't match any of these.
Back to the drawing board.
