As a general FYI. I currently have my Nikon top end camera in for service on a Mack Warranty Contract. It turns out that all Nikons must be returned to Nikon for repair. This is not much concern except that it adds significant time to effect a repair.
It also raises the question of the value of any after sales extended service warranty (even for high end cameras - think D4 and D800) if you can get coverage under your homeowners or other insurance.
Any other thoughts or knowledge, experiences with this problem.
Thanks

I've wondered the same thing. Since Nikon does not let others have its parts, they must do the repairs. So you send your camera to Mack, and they send it to Nikon? No additional cost to you (except the time factor)?
Correct. No additional cost, but so far significant additional time that may force me to rent a replacement for an upcoming trip to Cuba.
A bummer.
"Repair parts"? As in "repairing" the plastic LCD cover or the battery door cover on a D600? They have their nerve calling them "repair parts." What Nikon does not supply is a part that an independent shop needs to fix a non-functioning camera.
I'm not sure if this is any help but here in NYC there's a shop that is authorized by Nikon to do repairs. I was told by Nikon to go there when I had a problem which saved me from shipping.

Authorized repair centers are where peoiple go to get older Nikons repaired. For example, if you have a D40, they would not repair it at their Melville, NY facility. It would go to an Authorized place.
Nikon does not sell electronic replacement parts to its customers.

I went through the buying process, and I could have bough the parts they list. I would call them trim parts, rather than repair parts. eBay has similar parts for lower shipping costs.
