Hi, I just received my new shorty forty and it doesn't focus. It won't focus automatically or manually. I have tried to only buy Canon L lenses but this seemed like it would be fun. Anyone had issues with this lens? Thanks, Mike

Are we talking about the CANON EF 40MM, 2.8 STM pancake lens? If so, mine works perfectly. Super sharp edge to edge, focus works without complaint, quiet. One of my newest and favoritest.

It works flawlessly for pictures as well as movies. I carry it with me everywhere, wrapped in a bubble pouch; it's weight is negligible. I have used it with a 7D, t3i, t1i, 5d ii; hope to see it in action with a t4i in the near future. For $149, it is a bargain and it would not break the bank. It fits tightly on all of those cameras.

Two things you can do:

1. Send it back to canon under warranty

2, Send it back to canon under warranty

Yup, have used this lens for a couple months now with no issues. I also only have L-series lenses and considered this a compromise when it was purchased but I use it mainly for video and it works well. Super quiet to manually focus during video shooting. I shoot a Canon 1Dx and there is NO auto focus while shooting video.

Thank you all for your responses. I went back to check and found that I had not put enough pressure on turning it on the camera. The lens is a much tighter fit than any lens I've ever had and I didn't get it tight. It's on properly now and works fine. Thank you all for your suggestions. Mike

I rec. this same lens last month. As I stated on another post, It does fit tight. Being concerned, I called Canon and they said that was normal and would not harm camera mount.
I do like this lens too
