Wow, those are really nice and you're doing great with the camera! I need to get busy with mine, but time is something I just don't seem to have lately so I'm sure I will be fumbling around with the buttons for quite a while. Keep up the good work :)

Just got a 7D and am fine tuning focus. What do you mean by back button?

Go to the thread listed below. Jim D shared this with me. It was advice given to Mollymolly by Swamp Gator and Birdpix last May when she was learning to use her 7D. Great instructions from the pros. Hope it helps.

Sunfish,

A couple of suggestions. First switch to AI Servo, it works much beter on moving targets. Second, read this thread, especially the first 3 pages. Pay attention to the info about AF point expansion and back button focusing.

The 7D is a fantastic camera but takes some time to master. These three things will help you a lot. AI servo and AF point expansion are almost a must for moving birds. The BBF is a matter of preference but it would help if you can get use to using it. It is not as important as the first two things though.

Great catches, glad you are liking your 7D. I love mine.Question about the back button focus, do you have to hold the button down continuously to keep focusing or do you press it once to initiate continuous focus tracking?

I'm still practicing with the Canon 7D using the settings suggested on this forum. I'm using the back button for focusing which I really like but is taking some getting use to. Here are some of my recent shots I just wanted to share. Hope you like them.

Great shots Sunfish 33, looks like you are getting the hang of the new camera. Super detail and colors, well done

Thanks very much! I'm getting there but going to have work on it more. Not tought duty....I'm doing this for fun and love being out there. One day I will get into landscapes, portraits, etc....but for now this is what I love doing. I just want to get it right.
