Flamingos and gulls about a kilometre off shore, taken handheld with Sony A57 and Sigma 150-500mm lens, and 1.4X Smart Image Zoom function in the A57. 1/3000th sec, F8, ISO 400, bright sunlight.

Nice! Doesn't look like you had any trouble handholding 700 mm.

Thanks. I am able to handhold the Sigma - Sony combo at speeds as low as I/500th with the built in-lens stabilizer switched on. The A57's Internal stabilization is also very good. Either one gives you good stabilization. The total focal length in the first picture was actually 500mm x crop factor of 1.5 x Clear Image Zoom of 1.4 = 1050mm.
