Holes in the ice

I just love this forum. So many great photos. I'm relatively new to photography, but it also got me interested in birds.

There is a small, man-made lake close to where we live. It's been cold enough for ice to form ... but there are some recirculators in the lake. The moving water keeps the water from freezing so there are circular pools of open water.

These are just some photos I took over the last few days at a couple of the holes in the ice.

Oh ... I use a Nikon D7000, Sigma 70 - 200mm with 2x teleconverter.

Very nice series of pics ..... How lucky to have the recirculators in the ponds. This open water will keep birds around all winter and make figuring out where they will be so much easier!

I really like the Mallards coming in for a landing. The cattails in the background with the white snow make for an eye catching shot of the ducks.

I seem to have a difficult time keeping up with the forum.

Thank you for the comments.

With the ducks coming in for a landing ... just have to keep shooting and hope a couple will work out. Success rate is really low but it is fun.

Welcome to BIF/BOW. Really nice work here. It is difficult getting all of the birds in a flock shot in focus but you've done that well, here. I am especially fond of the Northern Harriers. Perhaps I'll post some of mine some day soon.
