Canon Powershot A2400 extremely poor image quality

We purchased a Canon Powershot A2400 IS for christmas because it was on a lightnong deal. We only paid $69.99 for the camera and it is usually $129.99 so it wasn't a bad price but I guess the saying is true.....somewhat. I would rather go and purchase 35mm disposable cameras than to keep this camera. I am uploading some photos I took today with this camera. I took some photos the other day and they all came out the same. All the photos that come out of this camera are dirty and noisey looking. Needless to say I am returning this camera to Amazon right this minute. I'll fork out some money and get a nice point and shoot for my daughter. She had a Nikon P&S but she dropped it on accident and the motor for the lens busted. Oh Well Live and Learn!!!

Look on the download copy to see what I am talking about, No detail at all and fuzzy. I had it mounted to a gorilla pod for best results. These little critters were only about 10-15 feet away from me too so it shouldn't have been a problem.

No post processing, straight from the camera

Umm, duh! But I would expect it to be better than a $5 disposable camera. I wasn't looking for a Jeanie in a bottle but for $70 (normally $130) I would expect more than that.

Unfortunately. you will not take great photos with a $70.00 camera, or with a $130.00 camera. You will be just too limited. It will not be much better than a toy. Sometimes that old saying, "it's not the camera, but the person behind the camera that determines the quality of the picture", just does not apply. This is one of those times.

It is probably academic if you are sending the camera back, but on the first three shots and the last shot, It looks to me like the camera is focusing on the ground behind the main subjects. Does this camera have the ability to shift the focus points off centre?

I had similar results with a point and shoot that I bought, but after experimenting with different settings, I figured out the camera's idiosyncrasies and now manage to get good results

I played around with the settings for a while but it doesn't matter what the camera focuses on it does not focus properly. Maybe the sensor got damaged during shipping. I have never seen a camera produce images like that being brand new. I have an old Kodak z650 with dust all over the sensor and embedded in the lens and the photos still come out better than from this new point and shoot. My daughter also had a Nikon coolpix camera that took really good photos. Just a crappy camera I guess

I have a dog with a black and white face, what does the cam focus on what does it expose on do you want muddy shadows or clipped hi'lights and thats with an slr. Your subjects are not easy to get right.

I guess that's why they gave us the "Manual" setting. :)
