Seeing Huey's post on the Dick Act regarding gun control prompted me to write this one on presidential term limits. If one congressman gets his way...it could become limitless. Countdown to one World leaderNew York Democratic Rep. Jose Serrano reintroduced a bill in Congress on Friday to repeal the 22nd Amendment, which places term limits on the U.S. presidency. The bill, which has been referred to committee, would allow Barack President Obama to become the first president since Franklin Roosevelt to seek a third term in office.

What you said was scary then, and even more so now. I'm not totally convinced it will be the last but I do believe our republican (not the political party) form of government has run its course and is on its way out. The US today holds precious little resemblance to the country in which I grew up, and certainly not to the land which my ancestors fought for since 1692. This has become almost surreal and, though I and many of you here have done our bit militarily and in other ways to be good and loyal citizens, I fear a lot of our effort has been in vain. I still love what America once was and long for its return but, should the deterioration of our way of life continue, I would hold no one in contempt nor see any dishonor in casting our lots elsewhere.

Oh, heck. Michelle will run in 2016. If she wins, Obama will, of course, be the de facto President.

Why worry about the president and term limits, we don't have them for members of congress. Look at how long some of those idiots have been around. I remember one that they routinely woke to vote in the not to distant past.

A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always count on the support of Paul.

To repeal a constitutional amendment requires it to be ratified by a large majority of the states. That takes time. It took 8 years for for the Equal Pay Equal Rights to work its way through the system. I do believe that was the last real proposal to add an amendment.

True, but back then they did not have a congress that was willing to "pass the law so we can see what's in it".

We should have term limits on all public offices, even local ones.

I'm thinking you have something there. I term and you are out of there. 6yrs? We could probably survive anyone for that long.
