I've had a Brother PT-10 label maker for ten years, and it still works fine. I recently bought a more portable hand held Brother ($30) because it had more features. Unfortunately, it would not print lables, so I returned it. It would mess up anywhere from the middle to the end of the word time after time.
I went online a read reviews of other label makers costing over $100, and there wasn't one that got a good review. Popular complaints were fuzzy printing, wasted (expensive) tape, and bad printing.
Can anyone recommend a label maker that works reliably and actually prints?
I purchased the Brother PT65 about 6-7 yrs ago when it was a new model. If I recall correctly, I paid about $70 for it. It's small & portable, but is limited on the ribbon sizes it will accomodate. A year or so ago, I purchased the Brother PT-2030, which is currenly availabe on Amazon for under $40. It's a little larger, but still very portable and accomodates several different ribbon (label) widths. I like it a lot better than the older PT65.

Hi Jerry. I've owned a 'cheap' Casio KL-100 Label Maker and used it extensively over the past 10 years without a glitch. Only problem I've run into: I preferred the 6mm width tape (for CD/DVD case edges), but now find it almost impossible to find it anywhere, so I use the 9mm and trim it manually. The machine has worked flawlessly so far. Of course, it depends on what you're wanting to label. This one only uses the rolls of tape... either white background or transparent with black lettering. I sure will miss it when it 'retires' :)

I guess I should Google more to see how well I do on other things, but $70 for a label maker? Label makers under a $100? Holy #@%&. I have a, what I call fancy smanchy label maker, from DYMO. I think I paid $30 and thought "I could buy a lot of "sharpies" and print it directly on what-ever", but at least I don't have to spin a dial and squeeze it to impress the number/letter on the tape anymore. It actually prints on a paper tape that is self sticking. :);)
