Will a off camera flash fire the flash through a wall or glass? Examples, while in my home made wooden bird blind I would like to put the flash on the roof on cloudy days or in winter outside when taking pictures through a window. I have a Nikon D7000 and thinking about getting the SB700 flash. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Bill

I do not believe the commander mode on your D7000 would fire the flash through a wall. But a radio trigger would.

Any radio based transmitter should work. If you want reliability shot after shot bite the bullett and go Pocket Wizard.

Absolutely correct. And look for an SB800 if you can find one, much more powerful than the SB700

When I shoot from a distance I simply attach the camera to the flash wirelessly trigger on camera and receiver on flash which you can not see here as it is 5' away from the camera to the left with another flash on camera and I trip the camera also wirelessly

Remember most guns will go into sleep mode after a while

DON'T be talked into spending a fortune I use these on BOTH my D700s and 60Ds

Which one is that? I don't want the camera to be fired by remote.

Yes using Radio triggers are the way to go for this, the built in infrared on speedlights with a hot shoe commander like the SU800 is good for line of sight only and glass might reduce the effectiveness plus the distance is only about 25 feet max?

I'm not suggesting buying PocketWizards since other brands are out there just shop around for your needs, but I use PocketWizard TTL Flex5's on all 12 of my Nikon Speedlights and Radio Transceivers aren't restricted by line of sight but maybe diminished if the walls are built with Steel Studs could effect the reliability but rarely, but I have effectively used my Radios up to 2,200 feet distance and the radio triggers act as repeaters so in theory I can space a speed light at 2,200 feet apart and around the world and could trigger the whole lot, plus the Flex5's are capable of changing the power output of the flashes from the camera instead of walking to each flash and setting them manually, but you have 3 separate group options so you can have all in one group or split them up into separate groups and change all 3 groups and make changes to each groups individually, but if I remember right you are only allowed up to 20 speed lights or something like that in a group? but for me the 12 I have is about the limit ill ever need.

Promaster is the brand..all it says on the box isRemote Flash Trigger System. Controls two off camera flash units...
The camera doesn't fire just the flashes. You have this small transmitter on the hot shoe and you place the remote unit on the flash ..it will trigger the flash when you take a photo..
