Out trolling for images yesterday and stumbled across this.
It's an old mill house on Jesse's Mill road, therefore I would assume this use to be Jesse's Mill. It's 5 stories high, yet if you notice in the first image, the foundation is made with creek rock using no grout or concrete. The old belt driven "Improved Dawson Roller Mills" in the second image was fascinating and what really blew my mind was the third image. Wasn't much access to a complete image, but notice the entire drive mechanism, shafts ... gears .. gear cogs, everything is made entirely of hand cut wood, each piece held in place by wooden dowel pins."WOW", talk about "labor of love".

Thanks Pat. No , the mill sits on privately owned land. And yes, this property is within 10 miles of Cleveland,Va. If you would like contact info for a possible visit, I would be happy to furnish you with directions and phone numbers in a PM. My best tip ... wait for warmer weather! LOL I probably spent 5 hours exploring and shooting and being too cold was the only reason I didn't spend more time. But I shall return. :0)
Great shots of fascinating place!

Have plans to go in that direction this coming summer.
Personally, I would enjoy spending time there.
Don't have final plans laid out, yet.

That took a lot of patience and skill to build.

Thanks for commenting photophile. It is nothing short of astounding to realize the amount of both engineering and craftsman skills necessary to put something like this together. No CAD programs, no power tools, look closely at the cogs in those gears ... hand hewn. The amount of "blood, sweat, and tears" that went into the construction of this project simply boggles the mind.

Thank you for being kind CJartist. These images were hastily thrown together in my excitement to show everyone my discovery. All of them were bracketed shots, and hopefully I can post some properly processed images soon.

Thank you for commenting Jean. No doubt in my mind, at one time this was a major business hub.
Very interesting and pretty photos. What a great place to explore.
Excellent subject and images---thanks for sharing! I would enjoy visiting this mill, also. The first image is well done---this winter scene is stunning, well worth the effort of shooting in the cold weather! If you don't mind--please send me the contact information as well.
