I recently purchased PE11 after being frustrated with LR 3.6 Everything was working fine for about 1 week until I opened LR. My problem is that PE11 will not open an image in editor. I can open it sometimes if I go directly to the image in my pictures, right click, open with PE11. If I start PE11 and try to open an image to edit, it will not do it. Is it possible there is a conflict with LR 3.6? My laptop is an HP with windows 7. Corel Paintshop Pro X3 came with the laptop. Should I un-install LR3.6? Would there be a conflict with these three editing programs?

Joel, one question that comes to mind: Is the image you are trying to open in PSE11, already open in LR3?

Windows (if that's what your OS is) will not allow you to open an image in one program that is already open in another program. This means that the two programs need to be integrated - and I'm afraid I can't help you there as I don't use LR.

I would be looking at LR as the culprit though, as you said the problem didn't start till you opened LR.
Have you tried closing both programs, restarting your computer, then opening PSE11 and an image with it?

Windows does not prohibit you from opening the same image in different programs at the same time. I have never had any problems. Sometimes I open an image in PS CS6 and then launch PSE11 and open the same image in this program. I may even open another program (such as Dynamic Auto Painter) and use the same image. Same image/same time/three programs -- Windows could care the less.

I believe the problem you are having is not a matter of interference -- Lightroom vs PSE11, but one of integration. There are steps you need to take to ensure a continuous and smooth flow of images between these two programs. I am not a Lightroom user so I can't advise you. One of the Lightroom experts in this forum will be able to help you. Or you could try the Adobe Forums.

There should not be a conflict betwixt LR3 and PSE11. Both applications will run and even work on the same image simultaneously. Your problem lies somewhere else. Win 7 will not prevent you from opening an image in Lightroom, opening the same image in PSE11, working on that image and saving it. The image in LR will be updated automatically.

I do not have Paintshop Pro on my computer, but I don't believe this application will cause the symptoms you are describing.

To find out what is going on may take a while, (several days) - are you prepared to spend that time?

The things I would look at are the available RAM, locking files and configuration. Incidentally, available RAM is not the same as installed RAM.

I'm not an expert, but I have had similar problems and have found ways and means to get over them.

Since the two programs causing you so much bother are both Adobe products, you may prefer to contact their techies who could connect to your computer remotely and sort it out that way.

It may be the type of file you are saving it as, in Paintshop Pro. If its a Jpg it should work but some files such as psp would not be able to be read in Photoshop elements and would have to be converted to a jpg .

I use Lightroom 4 but I go the other way. That is, right click on the image in Lightroom to "Edit in" and then choose PSE11. (I also have other choices).

Never a conflict and Lightroom remains open while I am editing in PSE or Photoshop.
