What amazed me is that somebody actually dug this stuff up! Have a great weekend, Pounder!
Death by Beer Flood, what a way to go.
The molasses flood in Boston was death by niggardlyness. The tank was built by a company that made alcohol from the molasses. Its construction was managed by an accountant who was interested in saving money so both the plates and rivets were inadequate. A load of warm molasses from the Caribbean delivered in January filled the 50 ft high tank nearly full and it failed the next day. The one good result was a requirement that projects of that nature had to be signed-off by an engineer.
