Never click a link that you don't where it's going to take you. Especially when the heading is "These Sites Violate Your Privacy"....that's always been my Golden Rule.

The very definition of common sense.
There is an add-on for Firefox that graphically shows the links to other sites. Some are banditing information but others mentioned in the article such as Youtube and Facebook often have social media links that enable the users to quickly send information to other users e.g 'I liked this'. This is why so much junk crops up on Facebook and such but is apparently what most young users want - for the old dinosaurs it is just a nuisance.
Perhaps I should change my picture!

absolutely. I have had one virus on my system and it was my fault. Now, if I don't know, I don't click.
Folks! Use an anti-virus that warns you if the site you're on has a virus or is known as a dangerous virus possibility! There are a few free anti-virus sites that will do the trick rather nicely! As they say, "Don't leave home without it!"
If they violate my privacy, then why would you expected me the click the link. ??? Duh !

The link tells you which sites violate your privacy...
Do you mean to say that people put truthful information in those registration forms?
Now that's just silly!
They still have your email address no matter what you write in the form!

How do you think Google and Facebook make their money. It isn't from the ads on the site it is from mining information from users accounts and selling that info to others.

It is the Wall Street Journal and I do not receive a message, but I run MS Essentials, Spybot and Chrome. Maybe it is IE?
