If you read the article it states that 'Interior Minister Hamed Bakayoko said the tragedy happened as hundreds of people were trying to go home after the fireworks display ended in Plateau, the city's central business district. The crush was near a stadium, Bakayoko said, adding that the proper security measures were in place during the fireworks show.'
So perhaps you should have said that all large gatherings - especially at stadiums - should be banned? I am sure that all the Baseball and Football fans would love you for that suggestion.
I think it has something to do with all of us. They are people ....and they died. Flesh and blood people do not only live in America...although you seem to think so. The remark came across as harsh and unfeeling - as if only Americans matter in the bigger scheme of things. You need a wake-up call.

The remark wasn't meant to be harsh or unfeeling but if you see it that way then so be it.
I constantly hear remarks from outsiders that they hate the USA because we keep sticking our nose into their business. These types of things happen on a regular basis in Africa. This tragedy could have been prevented. They don't happen here and they don't happen in Australia because we really do care about the safety and welfare of our citizens. If we went over there and offered them money to help the victims they would welcome it with open arms. However if we go there and tell them how to run their events they will tell us to mind our own business.
I have nothing but compassion for the victims of events like tsunamis, floods, fire, and events that people have not control over and I donate money to help them everytime. But a stampede at a public event that happens time after time without anything being done to improve conditions; it is none of our business. I am one who believes the world is right and we should take care of our own problems and let them sort out their own.
