I took this tonight "10/30/11" it's 840mm optical zoom and 140x digital zoom. Both shot using tripod and ISO 80 at f/8.0. The only edit was my name and Levels (auto). on both photographs. Let me know what you think.

Canon SX30 IS.

840mm Optical zoom

140x digital zoom

I like the first shot the best beccause of the slight bit of space at the bottom of the moon and the fact that it has room to move into the right side of the frame.

Both images show great detail and texture.

How in the world do you get 840 optical zoom? Had to be connected to a telescope. The digital zoon I can kind of guess at. I would have to get a Federal Grant for a Canon lens of that size.

Enjoyable, thanks for sharing with us.

I would guess he used a P&S with the smaller sensors which enable such focal lengths. Nice Captures

Thanks all! The Canon SX30 IS is in fact a Point and Shoot camera, but with a mid sized sensor that was used in some of the lower end DSLR camera's. It's not as big as the DSLR sensor, but not as small as a Point and Shoot camera's sensor. It's considered to be a bridge camera. 35x Optical zoom at 24mm -840mm. I really enjoy shooting with this camera. Thanks again for all of your comments!

It would be hard to find a better "take everywhere" camera than the SX30IS. Great quality photos with features like its articulated LCD screen. Your moon shots show that I have yet to explore its full telephoto capabilities.

I have several cameras . keep one on my belt all the time and an Sx30IS on the front seat.. I have the bigger guns in a camera bag and often find the Sx30 light enough to carry everywhere I go. I love the camera.

Lovin' it - believe it or not, you can get even sharper - use the timer and you eliminate that last little bit of shake ! SX30IS !
