To kill or not to kill

I really enjoy the cut and thrust of these posts. How opinions change to suit the topic. For instance when Irish terrorists set up a bomb to kill innocent women and cildren on Gibralta with no warning. We shot them down without a word said. Irish and U.S were most angry, they should have been arrested was the cry. Now can you picture the scenario if after the first aircraft hit one of the twin towers the U.S fighters caught up with the second aircraft, the talk would have gone like this. "I say chaps ,are you terrorists, if so please land at the nearest airport so we can arrest you" . I THINK NOT.

I don't think there was a serious attempt to arrest Bin Laden either.

Your probably right, and he should have been arrested, but circumstances might not have been favorable to make an arrest. There was a lot of emotions and heavy fire power inside and outside, and I don't think we will ever know the truth. Every effort should have been made to ARREST him, if that was not done, and it could have been, then someone will have to live with an unlawful killing.

Reading a new book about Thomas Jefferson. He and the other Founding Fathers would be turning in their graves to see what a mess Obama has got us in.

We need the leadership of Jefferson, or especially today, Ronald Reagan! Nuff said! Gary

Can't figure it out. Every one say's," Kill rabid dogs, so they can't hurt any one." Same people say, " Arrest the terrorist, no capital punishment." Seems strange, kill the dog, who has no control over his actions, but protect the killers, who know exactly what they are doing.

Pity the killers, but kill the dog.

You are 100% correct. He was permanently arrested and given no life without chance of parole!!!

Judging by a lot of cases we hear, obviously guilty people have got off due to technicalities and a cleaver lawyer.

It would appear to make sense therefore - in cases such as the recent killings - to shoot the perpetrator at the time with a gun in his hand rather than risk another miscarriage of justice.

I may have got cynical with age - but I seriously consider that the 'Scales of Justice' are rigged in favour of the side of the rich and famous.

Can't remember who, but a great American statesman once said,"First, shoot all the lawyers.

Could you be more specific. What is the "mess" Obama has got us in?
What specifically would Reagan or Thomas Jefferson had done at the end of the Bush era?

Details with source material please.

To me a terrorist is just another rabid creature that needs to be executed before they cane either kill more innocent people or entice and train others to do it for them. I don't care who's side or cause they are on - of course there are situations where life without parole in solitary confinement is called for also - as there is NO PAIN AFTER DEATH - some need to suffer long and hard.

first off, the Seals and the military do not have arrest powers. secondly no american law enforcement agency has any authority in packistan to arrest anybody. Thirdly, when you deploy special forces their job is to Kill the enemy and destroy their capabilities. FYI after the pentagon strike and the FAA grounded every flight, 2 air national guard f-16's armed with air to air missels were dispatched to shoot down flight 93 and where within a minute of being in range to fire ( President Bush had authorized it) when flight 93 crashed thanks to the passengers. It is believed that the terrorists on that flight were heading for the white house.

I have no problems with how the SAS deals with the IRA, they take few prisoners. Believe also that we could quickly end somali piracy if we went back to the old maritime rules authorizing Naval warships to hang pirates on site.

COMPETENT LEADERSHIP! There's the rub. Most competent leaders today work for multi national corporations and make millions per year along with percs. The only ones who would cut there pay for the job as president would be what we get. People who are after power and will trade money to get it. Whatever happened to statesmenship?
