Do you agree with this Marine?

Senator Dianne Feinstein,

I will not register my weapons should this bill be passed, as I do not believe it is the government’s right to know what I own. Nor do I think it prudent to tell you what I own so that it may be taken from me by a group of people who enjoy armed protection yet decry me having the same a crime. You ma’am have overstepped a line that is not your domain. I am a Marine Corps Veteran of 8 years, and I will not have some woman who proclaims the evil of an inanimate object, yet carries one, tell me I may not have one.

I am not your subject. I am the man who keeps you free. I am not your servant. I am the person whom you serve. I am not your peasant. I am the flesh and blood of America.
I am the man who fought for my country. I am the man who learned. I am an American. You will not tell me that I must register my semi-automatic AR-15 because of the actions of some evil man.

I will not be disarmed to suit the fear that has been established by the media and your misinformation campaign against the American public.

We, the people, deserve better than you.

Respectfully Submitted,

I don't disagree with the sentiment, but a couple of things make me skeptical of it being authentic. One, he says, "We deserve better than you." then, "Respectfully submitted." There's nothing respectful about, we deserve better than you. Second, he says he served eight years in the Marines (2004-2012) and he only made Corporal (E-4). I made E-4 in the Navy (Third Class Petty Officer) in about 2 1/2 years. In 8 years he should be a Staff Sergeant (E-6). I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that the letter was written by someone who never served in the military and thus doesn't understand military ranks and how one progresses through those ranks.

EDIT

It was less time than than that. I went to boot camp in August of 1966 and made Third Class in April of 1968, so it was 1 year and 8 months. Sorry I got the length of time it took me wrong--it was a long time ago.

Mac, you really need to add to your repertoire. When faced with something you choose not to believe, you discredit the messenger. In the context of this thread, the credibility of the Marine (if he is/was one) isn't really the subject. I happen to agree with what was stated, whether it was an authentic Marine, or Little Johnny.
What, exactly, DOES make Dianne Feinstein superior to you or I, that she may decide the course our life takes? Why is SHE one of the chosen few in California who can carry a concealed weapon?
Our freedoms, and liberties, are guaranteed by the same Constitution that Dianne Feinstein serves under, and has sworn to uphold. When we break the law, we must pay the price. To dole out punishment in anticipation of a crime is not provided for by the Constitution, or anything else.

Things have changed. Rank/rate is not so easily come by anymore as it was when you and I were in. After I retired (E-7) I worked with the military, as a contractor, until I retired last year (10/11). I've seen E-7 and E-8s not allowed to reenlist because of chicken stuff and others worried that the wouldn't be able to get to retirement or reenlist. They don't call it a rift, but that is what it is. It goes from E-3 thru E-8.

You've got it wrong. I don't support an assault weapons ban. Or any kind of weapons ban. If you had read posts I've made previously in other threads you would know that. I hope you don't think that only Democrats support gun control, or that all Democrats support gun control. I'm from Pennsylvania and I lived in Ohio for 5 years and I know for a fact that many Democrats in those states own guns. And I think that if you took the time to find out, you would see the same thing in many other states.
I don't see a need or reason to own assault weapons or high capacity magazines, and because of that I don't own one. But neither do I presume to impose that on anyone else. I own guns and I support the 2nd amendment.
One thing that really gets my ire up is people pretending to have served in the military when they didn't or pretending to have done more in the military than they really did. That "letter" did not strike me as having been written by someone who had served in the military, so I said so and gave my reasons why I thought that.
I'm sorry that you find Stolen Valor acceptable, or at least acceptable so long as the impostor supports your point of view.

Don't you just love "Freedom of Speech." 20 year USAF retiree and I agree this Marine has the right to believe what he believes and express his opinion.
