Hello--I'm new to this site, well fairly new (a couple weeks). I want to introduce myself. My name is Shelley and I am from Central Kansas. I enjoy taking photographs. I bought my first DSLR a couple years ago, a Nikon D7000 and have taken probably 20,000 shots. I am a self taught camera junkie. I want advice to become a better photographer. I accidentally stumbled onto this site a couple weeks ago and I think it is just what I need to take my photography to the next level. I enjoy all kinds of photography, sports, nature, macro, etc. I am just now getting into long exposure and am liking it lots. I will be posting pics as I go. Hope to get to know some of you and hoping to learn lots from you.

It's a freindly site and I've enjoyed by short membership so far. Lots of advice to be had but I've found the most useful to be reminders of the simple stuff, stuff that I know but rarely remember when I press the button!

Hello Shelley and welcome to the UHH.
Welcome to the site and enjoy the ride !
Welcome Shelley, tell us a bit about your photo.
Welcome. UHH is great site and we are glad you are here.
Welcome aboard the Hog. Enjoy, have fun and learn more.
Happy New Year.
My photo is rust on an old street sign in Central Kansas. I had gone to a historic site called Pawnee Rock (an old lookout for the military) to take some landscape pictures with the new lens I had just bought. I just quicked snapped a picture of the sign. I cropped out a very small portion of it using Photoshop, added a border and wallah!!! I am not usually into abstract, but kinda liked this. I want to expand my photography knowledge this year. I am going to take lots of pictures that are out of my comfort zone. I said I am new, but maybe what I should say is I am new at knowing how to actually set my camera in manual mode. Up until about 6 months ago, shot everything in auto mode. I took a photography class at the local community college and it just sparked my interest in lots of different kinds of photography that I never even knew existed. My goal for 2013 is to have a photo of mine chosen for a local photography show. Cheers and happy new year to all.
