Will be on a business trip to Sacramento California in mid Jan for about 10 days. May have the weekend free depending on how the work goes. This is a working trip so I will not have allot of free time during the week. What is the must see (photograph) places. Any suggestions will be welcomed. My biggest interest is old architecture, trains, and landscapes.

Train museum looks great. They are a little restrictive on photography though. The website is a great start.
Thanks both of you

They may have changed their policies on photography. I visited 20+ years ago and happily snapped away with my Nikon loaded with Ektachrome....

The policy is no tripods. I usually use a mono pod but my experience is they don’t know the difference. And no commercial use of photos taken. I will check with them on what they consider commercial. I do photo art, sometimes that is ok. Either way I am going.

The train museum is great.

Lone, after the train museum you may be all trained out. But, if you have a car, there is a nice little train museum in Rio Vista, about 45 min away. And the drive along 160 on the levy is great. Sunrise on the windturbines near Rio Vista is really spectacular. Another nice locomotive parked in Ione, on 4. The old Chinese town of Locke, on 160 is also very photogenic. Other than the Capital and OldTown, not much in Sac but typical urban/street stuff. Most of the nice opps are around it. Are you into birds? Lots of bird opps.

If you have any interest in bird – especially waterfowl – photography, I have heard that the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge is amazing. Sky virtually blackened with birds in flight!

If it's not flooded, the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Refuge is closer.

Hi normsImages: My recomendation would be Old Town Sacramento. The train museum is located there also...you will find the interesting old architecture there as well. There is also the river boat down in the same area.
