I ran across the link for this forum while comparing Canon DSLR's to Nikon. I have an old Nikon D40 which my youngest son gave me last year (instead of a truck payment) :) Actually he is running a little photography business on the side and picked up a D200 which is now his everyday tool for local photo shoots and business product shots.
I am having a blast with it, and recently purchased a Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 lens to replace the kit 18-55. What a difference in performance, especially in low light environments!
Thinking of trading this D40 out for the new D5200 which is due out here in the states I think next month. Thoughts or opinions on that, anyone?
My kids all play tennis, and the D40 just cannot keep up with the action; barely gets 2-3 shots in rapid fire mode. Plus it is only I think 6MP, and the D5200 is 24MP. I find myself blowing up some of the good shots to poster size, and also experimenting with conversion to canvas prints. You can only do so much with 6MP sensor material. Plus this newer one has live view which might be kind of handy, and also much more of an autofocus area (39-point instead of 3 in D40)
Anyhoo, looking forward to learning and sharing info with you all in the near future!
Welome! I have the 5100 and love it! the 5200 should be even better!
