I AM LOOKING FOR A BACKPACK WHICH WILL HOLD A D800 NIKON AND ITS ASSOCIATED LENSES WHICH ARE THE FOLLOWING:
200-400 F4, 70-200 F2.8, 24-70 F2.8 AND 14-24 F2.8.

DOES A CASE LIKE THIS EXIST AND IS IT NOT TOO CLUMSY?

I HAVE A CASE WHICH WILL HOLD THE 200-400 AND 70-200 WITH THE SMALLER LENSES (18-70 AND 12-24) AND A D7000 CAMERA (2/3 INCH FORMAT).

THE 1 INCH FORMAT LENSES AND CAMERA ARE TOO BIG (ESPECIALLY IN WIDTH). ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR A BACKPACK OR ANYTHING ELSE?

THANK YOU,

ROBERT GOLLANCE

I have the Lowepro Flipside 400 AW Backpack. It will be a tight fit but I think it all will fit. If you get it form B&H and everything won’t fit you can send it back. I’ve had this bag for going on 4 years, it goes everywhere with me and holding up great.

What attracted me to this bag is the main compartment opening is against your back when worn. Makes it hard for someone to get into it without you knowing.

I presently have an Apollo backpack that holds my two DSLRs and 4 lenses plus batt. Chargers and other accessories. It was about $70 on Ebay.

I chose the Kata Bumble Bee because it holds all of my gear and I can still fly with it with another carry on.
It holds:
2 bodies
2 speedlites and ST2 remote
Tamron 28-200
Canon 70-200 2.8
Canon 300 2.8
2x extender
17" laptop
external drive for laptop
extra batteries, CF chips
GPS
iPod
Sound amplifier
And more little stuff

It weighs about 60# or so, but so worth it to have everything with me when traveling.

The LowePro D650AW Stealth Reporter should do this nicely. I keep my gripped5D, gripped 7D, 70-200 f2.8L IS II, 24-105 f4L, 100-400 f/4L, 10-22 f/3.5-4.5, 85 f/1.8, 13"MBP, 4 PW's 1 580EXII, 1 430EX filters, notebook for scene sketch, about $50 in cash, and cables and charger.

ThinkTank Airport Ultralight V2.5 or the Kata Bumble Bee will definitely do it, use both for 14-24, 24-70, 70-200, 2 D3s Bodies and they would have handled another large lens and SB900 Flash or two. ThinkTank is smaller and easier to lug around. Both extremely well made

Robert, indeed that pack does exist. It will be heavy when packed. I only know LowPro so can only advice you on LP. They are popular, so you might be able to see them someplace.
But the web site will show lots of views with gear in them. Mine is a CompuTrekker and will easily hold your gear. My advice is that it MUST be a trekker. Only the Trekkers have the strap and waist belt system to enable you to carry that kind of load. They as designed to carry heavy weight, long distances. Yes they are bulky, that's a lot of stuff. If I'm in a car, I use mine to get all my gear to a location then transfer to smaller packs as my location demands.
I'm sure there are many worthy brands out there but it's harder to get info on those. LP's are well known for a reason. And they are reasonably priced for what you get. Also the AW models have a built in rain fly, very handy if you get caught out in inclement weather, could save your gear.

Welcome to our forum. The problem with buying a backpack is that there are too many choices! I suggest you lay out your equipment and get an idea what kind of volume you need inside a backpack. Will you be carrying a laptop or iPad. lats of pack have a slot for them.

Try to determine how much Velcro is inside the pack because if there isn't very much, you will be limited in where you can place the dividers.

Some backpacks have the opening flap against your back, preventing someone behind you from opening it while you're distracted.

Good luck with your choice. I finally got a Lowepro Fastback 350. It's not perfect, but it works for me.

One other thing. Save the caps for when you're yelling at someone. :D

Check out the Tamrac Expedition 9x. I have it filled with a D800 with a 24-70, a D300 with a 12-24, a 70-200 2.8, a 19-35 f3.5, an SB800 flash, remote flash cord, remote shutter cord, set of Cokin P-style filters, a 50 prime, a 100mm macro, a 1.4 extender, several 67 & 77mm filters, extra batteries, extra SDHC and Compact Flash cards, a lens baby, a HONL speed snoot, the kitchen sink (ok, not the sink!), but there is room for more. It also has a pocket and strap system to attach a tripod. The case is well padded and keeps everything in great order. If you look this item up the ad shows a camera mounted with a large lens, maybe a 300 2.8.

Take a look at Amazon. Bought a backpack for $35 +/- and it holds 2 bodies, 3 lenses, battery charger, etc. The partitions are movable and there are Velcro straps to hold it all in.
