Hi, my name is DerrickCurtis, long serving Military member (29 years). Family man with 6 children and another on the way. I love taking pictures but do not consider myself very good at it... but I keep trying. Sometimes I get lucky. My dream picture is to capture owls, so far I have none...but I'm working on it. Is that enough for an introduction? If I'm missing anything and you have questions, feel free to ask, or you can email me (does my email address show up on this?) If not and you want it, I'll give it to you. Thanks for reading...D'

Good morning everyone...

WOW!! What an incredible Welcome Wagon here at UHH, I appreciate the warmth in each reply I've received.

Growing up, I never had a camera and it was really only a couple years ago I decided to start taking photo, it's definitely a stress-release for me. I pretty much carry my camera with me everywhere I go now, and I'm spoiled to learn in the digital age as the learning process of taking hundreds of photos to get that one good one has never been truer than it is with me.

I started with a Sony, A200 I think it was. A few months ago, while canoeing, it ended up at the bottom of the lake. After recovery, the camera itself was not working but the lenses cleaned up and function well, so I got a new body and gave it to my 18-year old daughter, hoping to introduce her to the world of taking pictures.

I replaced that camera with a Nikon D40. I have several lenses, the standard one that came with the camera and a Zoom lens 70-300. For Christmas, my missus got me a telephoto lens 500mmF8.0 with an amplifier to 1000mm (I've only taken a couple practice photos with this one so far). I also have a MACRO lens and Pro HD Wide Angle lens, both of which I still don't know how to use.

So, with that said, I guess my first question is, what do I do now? Do I create an album, or upload photos somewhere and share some of what I have?

Thanks again for the warm welcome, and I look forward to learning as much as I can from all of you...D'

Practice, practice, practice. One new lens at a time.
When your satisfied with the results, post them here, selecting store original, and the forum will provide critique and suggestions for improvement.

Welcome, and I also want to thank you for your service....29 years...that's quite an accomplishment. My son will have 20 years in soon with USMC. Don't sell yourself short. Anyone who has a 29 year military career can master a digital camera with practice and patience. Look forward to seeing some of your pictures, one of them being your owl.
