Well I have never used dof preview as I know exactly what DOF I can achieve from any given ap.

Mirror lockup I use any in astrophotography, focus points I have only used the centre one since my EOS10D, custom functions I have no use for most, on buttons and what ones I do use are set in the menu, as for spot, average etc metering, been doing that for 30 years

JR1, you sure can be arrogant at times. There are many young, budding photographers on UHH that would appreciate the link/advise to help them along in their hobby or future career. Your comments here do not contribute to the post in any way. Remember, it's not always about you!

Cotondog, I do not know how you can accuse JR1 as being "arrogant at times". His English is so appallingly bad that I do not understand what he really means. The rapid response nature of this forum is no excuse to butcher the language, either intentionally or unintentionally.

Cotondog, I think you owe JR1 an apology for your accusation and JR1, you owe everyone an apology for your terrible writing. Have the English forgotten how to write in English?

I love your links. They are always on target with something I do not understand or find quite interesting. I really want to know more about the DOF preview button!

There is one exercise in this group that I am going to try in the next few days, I'll let you know if I can see the out-of-focus through the darkness as mentioned. This may be just what I have needed to get sharper images. Mine always seem quite soft. This is exactly why I like to read on UHH. I think one needs to surround themselves with the best! My sincere thanks for helping.

The DOF button is great, but if you have Live View you might like it better. A trick is to zoom in on the LCD as close as needed allowing you to see you DOF and sharpness. It will drain your battery faster and there are other tricks to sharpness, but this may be an easy solution.
