not completely satisfied with my quality, by looking at pics can anyone see anything that i'm doing wrong
Veterans Day Parade
NYC Police officers chatting
Veterans on Motorcycles
NYC Subway entrance
i have never critiqued anyone's work before so you are my first! your shots a beautifully sharp but i feel you have cropped them a bit close.
number 1 - i would like to see what was going on above the people in the vehicle's heads also a bit more of the road in front of the vehicle so i could see part of where its journey was going.
number 2 again for me it is about seeing a bit more of the scene to give me a feel of the atmosphere
number 3 same thing - too closely cropped so no view as to where the vehicle is heading.
number 4 again something of the background showing that it is a subway perhaps shoeing the steps going down to emphasise the sign and give it context. i know the shadow of the railing of the steps is on the sign but it doesnt feel enough of a visual as to where this is.
now i feel mean!
have you done any post processing? Might be somewhere to start if not.
They all look fine to me.
Really appreciate the comments, don't feel mean. hope the info that I get from people will help me do better then just maybe i'll start seeing what I was looking for again, Thanx
Never done any post processing
I think alycrom has made some good notations, and I'm in agreement. I wonder, however, what specifically you find lacking in your photos, or perhaps you just "don't like them". Remember, YOU will be the last person to be impressed with your work!
Suggestion: Keep on shooting, and each time you reach for the shutter button ask yourself "Other than taking a photo, WHAT am I trying to do?"
Maybe you want to show the valor and heritage of the vets riding in the jeep. Maybe you're showing that cops are just people, too...etc. After awhile, you'll realize that you are trying to communicate something...not just punching a button!
Keep on, Bizkit, and don't stop for nuthin!

Must agree... they are tack sharp!, to closely cropped. Without including to much background allow just enough to offer a sense of place. In post ( if you are using lightroom ) you might add just a touch of the black slider for a bit of snap.
keep them coming!
Appreciate the comment but for some reason I am not completely satisfied. I'll just keep starring at the pics and scratching my head and try to figure out what it is I'm looking for
I think u might have hit the nail on the head.
Thank u

I will just agree with the other comments. Technically you have masterful shots, extremely sharp. And with that said would you enlighten us with what equipment and settings you were using? I strive to reach the level of sharpness you have attained with these photos.

I think you answered yourself.
You dislike the boring parade ones, and you like the ones with the $100,000+ Sports Car.
Composition. Find things more interesting to yourself. Technically your work is fine, but if it bores you, you'll lose interest quick.

Try shooting at F/anything at ISO 100 on a bright day while holding the level reasonably still. Aim for a shutters speed that's faster than your focal length is long. (i.e. 1/200th or faster for 200mm (multiply by 1.5 for crop sensor cam)
His shots are good, but you don't have to strive to reach this quality... what are you doing that you're not getting a sharp shot?

You're shooting with that, and asking what you're doing wrong? Are you a pro? That's some nice gear.
