Great link to the chart and instructions on how to use it.

But, what do you do if the results are not what you expected? I would think any adjustment to correct a problem would have to be done by an authorized service center for the particular brand of camera... wouldn't it??

Many cameras have an AF Fine Tune feature that allows the user to tune the focus on each lens. Check your user manuals to see if your cameras has that ability. If not, it will take a professional to do it, but then the adjustment will apply to EVERY lens you use on that camera.
The advantage to using a chart like this if you have no AF Fine Tune feature is that you will then have the knowledge of exactly where that lens is focusing and be able to make the adjustment in focus yourself.

OK... good info... thanks!

Just to clarify, though, if I can make adjustments, are you saying that each lens would have to tuned? That means that this is not global adjustment, rather, an individual lens adjustment?

And, if I have a lens or camera that is "back-focusing" and there is no adjustment that I can do myself... Do I then use manual focus only?

Now you have a handle on the situation.

Yes it does. It will allow you to adjust as many as 20 individual lenses if I remember right.

Yes.

If the camera body supports micro focus adjustments then once calibrated each lens will be custom calibrated to the specific camera body to allow for slight variances found during the manufacturing process.

Each time a lens is snapped onto the camera it is automatically adjusted to make sure autofocus is dead on.
