Great Blue at Beaver Lake Wetlands

I came upon this beautiful Great Blue Heron suddently and when he (she) saw me and raised it's leg, it fluttered down to the water below it's perch. Unfortunately it happened to be frozen over and it skidded on it's claws flapping all the way. By the time I could get the next shot off (not set on burst mode), it had risen up and started to fly off across the partially frozen lake and swear it was watching me the whole time! :) The pix are the sequence described....

Pix were shot with my D800, Nikkor 28mm-300mm F3.5 zoom at 300mm, between 1/250 and 1/1000, F8, ISO 400

That's a really nice set and you did a great job of following the GBH in flight

Thanks for all the kind comments. Luck is certainly involved with the 'right time/right place' thing, but the key is to be ready, eh?

Really good shots mrjcall! Isn't it thrilling to catch these birds in flight?
