Printer problems

Printing pictures from LR 3 to HP D110 Using HP everday semigloss paper (I know, not the most professional printerbut fits my budget for now) No matter how I set preferences it prints too fast and you can see bands, or stripes-not real bad but noticeable. Tried all the printer settings (preferences) Paper, photo etc, and nothinging helps, it prints almost like a fast draft. It printed OK, I think) when I first got it. It is relatively new. Really need some help, this site has been really helpful to this old man in the past.

Thanks

George

Sounds like you've pretty well exhausted, the list of cures. I just parked a HP all in one, after it quit with two expensive new full ink tanks.

I went to a Canon, small office commercial document/graphics printer. A little expensive considering it only prints, doesn't copy, is not wireless, and has no card readers. But it will print up to a 13x19 borderless print.

The HP wasn't really that old, and hadn't been very heavily used. So I thought I would leave the all in one stuff alone, and just go for a heavy duty photo printer.

The old HP's seemed to be pretty good. My son had one until it literally fell apart, 6 or 7 years. But the new stuff, just does not wear well. Especially it seems the all in ones, too much for too little money, and not very good quality.

Also you might try trashing the preferences of it that are in your hd. You don't say what kind of computer you have.
Also, uninstall the printer completely and reinstall.
Good luck !

I had a few HP printers over the years. For the most part HP makes very nice printers, except when it comes to printing photos. For some reason there is always the problem of banding. The one solution I didn't see you try was for your paper setting. You need to set your printer specifically to "Photo Paper" option, set your paper size for the print size you want to print. Then in your color settings, you need to select the Photo to "Best, or High Resolution Images." This should solve your problem.

I personally don't use HP printers for my photos anymore. I buy and use Epson almost exclusively because it fits my budget and I'm very pleased with the results when I print photographs.

The HUGE downside to any printer, especially inkjet printers, is the cost of replenishing the ink supplies. Most inkjet printers have very small ink cartridges and replacing them is SO expensive. I calculated the cost for replacing my inks and it adds up to this. For what it costs to buy ink for the printer 3 or 4 times, I can actually buy a new printer. Some inkjet printers do better than others, but it's still expensive no matter which way you look at it.

i've been using an hp d7260 photosmart printer for 3-4 yrs now and I have had no problems with photos. It prints all sizes very fast and very good quality. i have an epson all in one combo and while it prints okay, it is somewhat slow.
i guess it's a matter of luck w/ some of these printers.

I gave up on printing at home due to printer problems and the price of ink cartridges. I have had Cannon , HP and Epson Printers so it isn't just one brand. In the long run it is cheaper for us to have them printed. I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of prints from Walgreens and Walmart and some of the online printers. We bought a black Laser printer for documents and non photographic needs.

It could be part of our problems was we didn't print enough color photos and the ink dried up.

I did all the settings, ie photo paper best to no avail. Gonna try alignment and rebooting as suggested. Then maybe the dumpster. (well,no, it prints docs very well) I will keep it and try the suggestion of Walgreens etc which sounds like a good one. Thanks to all for the quick and professional replys.

Printer works fine when printing from Picasa, banding when printing from Lightroom 3. This looks like a major clue. Can anyone tell me how to fix LR3 so that it prints like Picasa? Thanks for all your inputs so far!

Thanks all for your comments and I have a confession to make. After much mental agony and trying many things, I finally read some directions and fixed the problem. Lesson: in LR3 at least, you cannot set the printer preferences at the printer, but must set them on Lightroom itself. Screen looks the same as when you set up the printer but only works from LR When I set the preferences on LR the banding went away and the prints looked fine.
Thanks again and sorry I was so slow to do it properly.
