How would you answer your children, if they asked why Santa brings more expensive toys to the homes of rich kids?

Cuz he knows when the expensive toys break it's going to cost alot to replace them. And HE knows they're not any more fun than the cheap toys anyway.

Just like god kills children whose parents take him out of schools, he also likes rich kids better because they're just better than poor kids. That's why they're rich. Obviously rich parents like Jesus more than poor parents because poor parents just want "stuff" from the government, as Bill O'Reilly and Mitt Romney told us.

By the way, for the dimmer bulbs among us, that was satire, OK?

that is a tricky one isn't it
We all want the best for the children then reality kicks in
Sorry I cannot think of an answer for you
Brenda

Ps the kids need the attention and love from Mum and Dad
that is what they will always remember ..fun and games and hugs
rich kids are often palmed off with other values
keep smiling

It might have been satire, but your political leanings are showing in a NON political question by the OP.

I have raised two wonderful daughters, and they 8 wonderful grandchildren, and now coming into 4 great grandchildern. None of them asked such a question. To keep this short I'll get to the blunt answer. Sounds to be like a question, that they weren't taught to be greatful for what they have. Sounds like they were never taught to reflect and be thankful for what they have and others don't.

When I grew up we played kick the can, which once held the green beans someones ate supper that was rinsed out. We played with sticks which could poke our eyes out, whether for sword fighting, or swatting a ball around on the ground, these were not the lastest toys out, but they surfficed for the time. We didn't reflect on, that some other rich kid had a signed ball and bat and mitt to play with and we didn't. We had full bellies and were told if we didn't finished what was put before us, starving childern in Africa would love to have what we did. It showed us we weren't on top but also not on the bottom.

I am not being judgemental towards you, rather I replied why I didn't and my childern didn't ask such a question.

It would take an excessivley long answer because it requires different answer for different ages and how many asked? You didn't give any specifics. It is totally an open ended question. Actually sounds like a set up question.

Thst's why I gave my smartass political reply. I also questioned what child would ask something like that. How would a young child even know that rich kids got more expensive toys?

A religeous person would have a problem answering that question.
I am not.

By the time my kids were old enough to even think about that, they would have stopped believing in Santa, so I very much doubt it would be an issue.

I have been poor all my life and I didn't know any rich kids. There were times when we didn't get presents but I knew we were poor so I never expected anything. So, why was I still happy? I learned early that there was no Santa and I was taught the real reason for Christmas. I never understood the reason for a Christmas tree and the Easter Bunng had me confused so I learned to look beyond all that. I am not going to get into religion but you know where I am going with this.

Merry Christmas Ya'll.

Sixty Minutes showed a piece on a singer named Rodriguez tonight. He came out with a couple of albums in the late sixties that just didn't sell. However, they sold 5 million copies in South Africa because they spoke to the anti-apartheid movement. He didn't know and never got a penny. He worked as a day laborer for 40 years until somebody found him and did a documentary on him. He did concerts in South Africa, appeared on Letterman, and did concerts across the U.S., finally making some money. Sixty minutes asked him about being poor for so long and having to work so hard for so long. He said that there was nothing wrong with hard work, and there was nothing wrong with being poor...it didn't mean that you were dirty or anything.

I agree with Rodriguez, and the whole premise of the OP's question is that there is something wrong with being poor.

I'm not sure how you worked that one out. If there was a hidden premise to the post, it was the over commercialisation of Christmas where children from all financial backgrounds are subjected to the same advertisments and expectations based on the TV programmes they watch. The problem as I see it isn't ungrateful children but ungrateful adults. We want our children to have some sense of magic for the Christmas period, we want to see their eyes light up when they open their presents. But this isn't enough, we want to get the credit for ourselves, which is why we write on these presents who they're from. This reduces the whole idea of Santa to little more than a delivery service.
