There are several gardens here in Yakima that the owners are kind enough to let me wonder at my leasure taking pictures. I always take them some of their flower shots made into cards as a thank you! A little payback goes a long way!

These are beautiful and have very nice color. I do feel they would be much nicer if their stems were in the photo.

Yes I like the black background but with stems would be better. Very nice!

I use these for cards and most people like them this way! I do have some with stems but it I guess I'll keep doing what sells! This one does pretty good too! Especially with people who like frogs!

FLoating flowers are one of my favorites to shoot. Did a series of amaryllis last holiday season. Keeping the stem in the photos and in focus, tended to "unsharpen" the flower itself. Iris has beautiful texture and you've captured it well.

I have this convoluted set up in the house. Black fabric background, indirect light via flashlight (don't have off camera flash) or natural light. Can also blacken background in photoshop. It's lots of fun to play with.....Will look for a couple of orange blossoms I did, just can't find the file......That's why I'm taking a Lightroom class.....lol

I use the quick select tool in photoshop CS5 or if on my laptop Elements 9. Both work pretty much the same.

I love the photos and the way you placed them.
Were you able to place a black screen or background cloth behind the flowers, or did you use photo software to cut them out & place on a black background?

I use the "Quick Select Tool" in PS5 or Elements9. Outline the flower select fill and then color and deslect and I'm done! It beats cutting and adding to another layer! Thanks for looking!
