All three of your lady beetle images are fore-focused. In this enlargement, you can see a narrow DoF on the ground in front of beetle.
Are you manually focusing, or Auto-Focusing?
If manual focusing, try using Live View on the LCD screen, and press "
+" button, until max screen enlargement is achieved. Manually focus while viewing LCD screen, then take photograph. Camera will automatically revert out of LV for photo.
If you are using A-F, you need to calibrate camera's A-F system with this lens.
how do i calibrate the camera, please?

I own a D90, and I do not know. Might only be possible with newer generation cameras, which can be calibrated to a particular lens.
Good ones mate best for the season for you and yours.
thank you and a happy christmas to yourself and family.

Hi, First, I shoot with a Canon 50D, and it has micro lens correction built in. I'm not sure if Nikon has this feature. The correction feature is not mentioned in my Canon manual, but I bought a 2d party manual called "Canon 50D Field Guide" and it was outlined in the manual of what it could do, and how to find it buried in one of the sub menus of the camera. I would suggest go to a book store and see if your cameras 2d party manual is there and look to see if you can make the lens to camera adjustments. Once if you find they can be made, there is a lot of information and devices to make the adjustments. The Canon 50D will store up to 20 lenses that have been calibrated to the camera. As soon as the lens is attached to the camera, the 50D ids the lens, and makes the adjustments. Don't fret, I'm going through all this myself. Look at my posts and you will find one about a Datacolor Spyder Lens calibrator, and plenty of UHH post to give you a better idea of what you must do to accomplish the task.
