I just joined this group. I use a variant of this as my desktop picture, though it took some additional cropping for this site. The original was cropped from a full shot. The cat has signed a release. Camera is a Lumix FZ-20. I like the long lens (12X), which lets me compose a shot without standing in the middle of traffic, and also doesn't call as much attention from subjects.

Hi RMM. Welcome to the UH. I like your cat photo. Black cats are often hard to get a good exposure on. Too little light and they have no detail or too much and they are gray instead of black. Your exposure reveals good detail without blowing out too much of the highlights.

It might be my screen but I see a green cast in the shadows. I tried a few adjustments just to see what they would look like. Hope you dont mind.

Beautifully done. Nice focus, composition, background, and colors. Yes black animals are the hardest to shoot without either losing details or getting some glaring. When possible, when shooting a black animal try to keep their entire body out of the sun to avoid overexposure where the sun hits. The previous edit did improve it by taking off a lot of the green cast. I took that photo and darkened the highlights and slightly lightened the shadows. I'll attach that. Hope you don't mind me messing with your lovely cat photo.

I checked with the cat, and he doesn't mind the changes. Haven't been back here for a few days because we've been without power for the past few days, so no computer, no Internet. I'm at the hospital visiting my daughter, and they've got Internet.
