Image #5 = Canon EOS X5 at ISO 100, with 50-mm lens, 1/100-sec at f/3.5

You can see how narrow a DoF you capture at f/3.5. Increasing your ISO to 400 will give you two more stops of sensitivity, allowing an exposure of about f/5. Increasing your light brightness will allow an even smaller aperture, and greater DoF.

This is exactly why most photographer matriculate to speedlight illumination, whic will allow apertures in the f/16 to f/22 range.

Very nice... looks like you have found a spot where you can find these guys... Best shot pretty much on the same level as the spider if you can get your camera in position and best if you make the eyes the main focus of your photo.... everyone enjoys looking into the eyes of a jumper. Except for maybe Sarge69..

With your short lens you should be able to fashion a small diffuser for your popup flash and get some pretty good results... I also shoot Canon and for some reason notice noise in my photography if I try to push the ISO's very far at all... A flash will help you alot, even if it is only your popup.

I believe the fact that these were "in situ" earns you extra bonus points. Well done you.

I try to do as much of my work as possible in situ, so as not to change the great order of things. i do appreciate the way some use the refridgerator etc. but will only as a last resort.Best for the season.
