That's the wrong question, and you know it. Nothing can totally prevent mass killings, unless you're planning on putting the entire population on lithium. More properly. the question is whether reasonable restrictions on gun ownership can reduce the frequency and/or the severity of such events. A Bushmaster is way more effective as a means of killing than a baseball bat or a knife. It's that action-at-a-distance thing.

Yes, I do know that nothing can totally prevent mass killings, that was my point. Gun control won't do it. Gun control would be going in the wrong direction. whether reasonable restrictions on gun ownership can reduce the frequency and/or the severity of such events - the answer is no, it can not. A gun is no different than a knife. They both kill. A child would not have a chance against in adult. Infact, the latest killings were in a class room at close range. A mother drowns her children in the bath tub. Another drives her car into a river with her two children straped in their car seats. Another a pillow, the back yard pool, on an on. As adults we kill our own children, we are a sick people. There is something wrong here an it is not guns.

We agree in part. Irrational people intent on killing will find ways to kill. You chose to ignore the part where a knife or a pillow don't have the same effect as a semi-automatic with 30-round magazines. Sort of like ignoring the difference between knocking someone out with a beer bottle (assault) and killing him (manslaughter).

They don't have the same effect when used to murder? How is that? The person isn't as dead when killed with a knife? Are they as dead if manure is used to cause an explosion? How about using box cutters to crash an airplane?
Just for the record, I want as much fire power as I can because the drug smugglers around here in Phoenix are very heavily armed....and the cops aren't armed heavily enough. Even if they were....they can't be everywhere.
I agree we need to keep guns from mentally defective people and criminals...but no registration with the government. A database of gun owners makes it easier for a corrupt government to disarm the public and seize control unconstitutionally. You don't think it could happen? I didn't think the government had the right to tell me I have to buy insurance just because I exist but the Supreme Court ruled they do!

So many feel that taking away the right to bear arms, is the solution. In fact a newspaper recently published the names and addresses of gun owners, which some felt endangered several retired police officers I think in all fairness, we should publish the names and addresses of those who are not armed. s I know it will make me feel a lot safer, because I am not on that list.
