New Softbox..

I made a new softbox out of one of those huge cereal boxes that you can only get at a place like Sam's... I lined the inside with aluminum foil using double sided tape so that it does not absorb the flash, and obviously I cut the box to tapper it from its large face back to the small flash head.

I kinda like it I used paper towel protected by a plastic top from some other food container for a diffuser.

The flower shows the soft quality of the flash it produces.

I guess I will have to check that out but all the flowers are closed up right now.... maybe I will find some moss to spray.

I was really pretty much just trying to copy that huge softbox that Shahan uses to get those spider eyes all glossed over with color, guess I am going to have to go visit some local parks and see if I can find some spiders...

I'm on the same path. Made mine 7 inches by 4 1/2 inches and 7 inches long

Yup we are going the same direction, mine is 6 1/2 X 8 1/2 and about 8" long.... there are those water drops.. I am pleased with the box, I don't know if it helps with the background or not but I do like these quick pics of the little water drops.

Here's 2 photos, first one I thought was a pure white but has a little bluish color/tiny weed flower, and the second shot is of a water drop on weed. I'm going to run out and see what else I can find. Not Great but No HOT SPOTS, and Brings out All the Color, what we are looking for

I think that they look great, if anything the water drop pic may be just a tad under exposed, but that can be fixed in PP.. Did you shoot auto WB or do you adjust set a WB or do you possible shoot custom WB... If you haven't checked this out you should, it can make a difference.... Even shooting a blank index card for custom WB can improve shots.

When I got down and look real close I could see the color in the flower. I just hadn't noticed. I'm pumped. Just brought back some more photos but have a meeting I have to attend, running late. Will post tonight or tomorrow after work. Well, maybe after work tomorrow I'll chase a Jumper down. As always thanks for the push.

A few from last night. Not the best for focus, but shows the soft light with water drops. Have a cold front coming in today, hope I can find a few Jumpers to test soft box on

Blurryeyed and fstop22... you guys rock. I just love eavesdropping on your "conversations", seeing your creations (equipment and photos) brought to life and sharing your enthusiasm for your craft. I'd love to be a fly on the wall while you work... of course I'd get my picture taken.

Blurryeyed, check out the color on these.. No Jumpers today nasty wind. Did manage a few others. Liking the increase Detail and Color. Colors I've never seen before and it ain't the white balance, same as it's always been. I got a close up of a Damsel fly that's better than I've ever done, extreme fine detail for a 100mm The fuzz on the face and deep colors has got me sold on the new soft box. I still don't have the right material as It's a little brighter in the center than the sides. Heck you guys decide if you want to build or buy one yourself.

Very Nice! The soft flash makes a big difference, much of the detail previously would have been too harsh or burned out altogether. Well Done!
