Current Newsweek Mag.0 (Dec. 24 issue) has an article about how the Chinese Buddhist caves are in danger by human contaminaiton. Article continues by saying they are in process of digitizing and have a $40 million dollar visitors center to be built. To be used will be a camera by Northwestern Univ. and Andrew Mellow Foundation to create a digital archive of the caves using a camera with a billion pixel resolution.
It will take 20 minures to record a 30 square foot fresco and there are 492 caves with murals inside. What a task if at all possible
Cool that they are saving that in digital formats. Gosh, how can I get one of those cameras? Is it good in low light and can I wear it around my waist?
Won't be long before bazillion mps and mega-mega zooms with a 1.4 or so will be available! Just wait . . . .
Merry Christmas, Gary
Let me get this right. The caves are in danger from human contamination but they build a visitor center. Isn't a visitor center to encourage visitors? Did this idea come from Washington D.C.? 20 minutes to record a photo? Someone will forget to bring a tripod so expenses will go over budget.
