Hi!
Does have anyone tried to shot some pictures of a meteor shower using a compact camera? I mean, there are these scenery or presets, like "night with a tripod" and "fireworks", maybe one of them can be used to this.
Does anyone tried that (yes, I know a DSLR or a film SLR is way more flexible and should be used instead, but sometimes you simply doesn't have one at hand)?
As always, sorry for the bad english, and thanks in advance.
I'm really not sure. My Nikon P510 has a 4 sec delay with shutter but also has fireworks setting that I haven't used yet so don't know the open shutter time.
Meteor shower could be 30 seconds or more in a dark area so don't think my P510 could do it. I'll have to test the fireworks as a night picture taker to see what it's capable of.

I'm more curious if someone had tried the presets of these kind of camera: "night with tripod", and "fireworks". AFAIK, the P510 has the max shutter time of 4 seconds - you got to be lucky to shot a meteor within 4 seconds (what about lightning?). It has the PASM modes too, but I'm trying to see only the presets (the "common ground" of the compact digicams).

I have used a Canon P.S. Elph 310 on Night mode/long shutter. Best luck when on a small tripod. Need to be lucky to have shutter opened in right direction. I a catch occ. airplanes, but that's about it. I also have a Pentax K30 dslr, no better luck..both($150) and ($1000) cameras take nice ,clear night shots..
