I love birds and they make good subjects in New Zealand where there are few resident mammals. Lets see some of the most unusual photos and special effects created from our feathered friends

Hi Andy, Love #2 & #3, #1 is good too but the other two are great. Being quite a novice I have not heard of defraction grating or speed filter. Can you tell me what they are please and how you use them.
thanks mate.

Those filters are available from the Kokin Filter Range (Amateur or Prof). And I expect several similar ranges of filter holders. Also see my post on Multiprisms...
I'm away for Christmas... But I'll give more information on creative filters after Xmas.

#2 is awesome. Would love to see that hanging on my wall!
Here are some more wacky birds.
The first is a long time exposure plus flash of my pet lovebird getting drunk.
The second is a very Japanese-feeling pic of pied stilts on my local salt marsh. Taken with my favourite 300mm telephoto, handheld... Thanks to Nikon for giving me such a huge ASA number!
The last is a weird alien bird monster... to encourage those who feel creative.
I hope more people will put up some creative bird pictures soon!
