Does anyone know how to make a photo of the moon or something like that stand out while it is displayed in dimm lighted room? I have been searching the net and havent been able to find anything. If someone knows what thisz type of photo or painting is called that would help too

I think you're looking for a pin spot light fixture and bulb. It is so narrowly focused that you can aim it for the middle of the moon and very little if any light goes anywhere else. Adjust the distance from the photo somewhat to determine how small or large the pin spot's focal area is. Adjust the output with a dimmer to get the amount of light you desire. There's more that can be done. Google it for more detail. Pro pin spots are available at any theater and band lighting supply source. Home pin spots would be available at any residential lighting store or even Home Depot and Lowe's.

Another thing I've seen many times but not too recently is printing the moon photo onto a white translucent backing. I have no clue where to have that done. When a diffused bulb in a lightbox type frame behind it is shown through the translucent material, only the moon would be lit and the black of the sky would not allow light through it. You will see huge versions of this in airports, etc. No light escapes into the room at all except through the moon, for example.

You may have also seen this method used in a somewhat tacky way at flea markets or public trade centers where there will be a colorful Fall waterfall or grinding mill scene that is printed on a translucent backing then a motorized "shading" drum rolls continually inside the lightbox and creates a moving water effect in the diffused light that is coming through the water from inside. Some also have a digital recording of a rushing waterfall sound that is adjustable. I hope that made sense.

I'm sure there are more methods but those are two that come to mind.
