Yep, I like it too! Nicely framed as the beach leads you round, and a great sky too!

Amazing what you can find digging around in the old stuff. I really like the perspective of this shot. The footprints lead the eye to the people in the distance so that there is a clear feeling of the peacefulness of a long walk by the beach. I am not normally a fan of pseudoHDR but in this case it has worked reasonably well though it would have been interesting to see the original for comparison. The clouds in the upper left and centre are blown but I don't know if that was the result of the HDRing or the original pic. But it doesn't detract too much as it is clear that the sun is low in the sky so the brain/eye expects a degree of intensity and glare. My only other thought is that the pic is sloping up to the right, because if you check the verticals of the buildings you will find that they all lean to the left. But its a minor tweek to fix this. None of which, of course detracts from the tranquil atmosphere you have created, its a nice feeling, an evening/morning walk on the beach.

Hope this helps.

Peter

Were you staying in one of the hotels in the photo, or are they rental units?

Consider cropping off the left side of the photo from the edge to the next tall palm tree, which is in the group of four tall trees. This will eliminate the blown out clouds, and the (lens flare?) on one of the trees on the left.

Also defringe the green, and red from the trees.

Looks like the Whaler Condominiums. My favorite place to stay in Maui.

Thanks, for all the comments. This is why I like posting here at UHH. I can’t blow it up as well at home and see all of the problems until its uploaded here on the forum. It also helps to have numerous sets of eyes. It’s so easy to miss little things when you are so focused on the overall photo all of you help so much.

I took your advice Peter and straightened the photo and I also cropped it as SoHillGuy suggested. I didn't like it square I like it better in a rectangular shape so I took some of the upper sky with it so I don’t lose composition. I think it still works and it got rid of that flair in the upper left corner plus that took care of the red green problem in the trees. I was afraid I would lose the impact of the photo cropping it but I think it still works.

We were there during that weird weather March 2012 and yes we were staying there in the hotel closest to you in the picture. Matter of fact if you look at the blue tarp go straight up our room was the one on the end just above those green bushes. I went to Hawaii to get a tan and I had to use the umbrella most of the time. We still had a good time and I got some awesome pictures.

Here is a blurb from the website listed below. I remember all of this clearly :{ Hawaii has battled heavy rain all week. Downpours have forced schools to close and caused sewers to overflow. A brown water advisory is in effect for the entire island of Oahu, according to news reports. Flash floods have been reported today in Honolulu, with water up to several feet deep on some roads, according to the NWS. The heavy rain triggered a landslide near the Kauai Marriott hotel, blocking a road.} http://www.ouramazingplanet.com/2593-hawaii-hail.html

Sorry I don't have the original here with me at work but here's my updated version with the suggested improvements.

At work on break. The windows don't open, but if they did, I'd be hanging my head out.

I like the cropped version, it didn't hurt as far as it applies to me. It actually put the beach in the lower 2/3rd's, and the upper building and trees in the upper third of the photo.

Nice composition. You've got a good bit of chromatic abberation though, and the highlights in your clouds are a bit blown out.

Thank you  I was made aware of that and I made an improvement and posted it further down into the post to correct the chromatic abberation.
