Storing photos by date and time rather than number

I tried "Searching" the Forum for advice on how to do this, but maybe I wasn't asking the right questions. I want to put all of my pictures from a recent trip to Italy onto a memory card (CF and SD) to be able to do a slide show. Problem is that I used 5 4 GB cards while I was there and if I "lump" them together, none of them will be in chronological order.Any help will be appreciated.

If you are using a windows machine you could put them all in a folder change the folder view to 'Details', click the 'Date' button at the top of the folder, they will now all be in chronological order. Then if you select them all and right click you can rename them to Italy or what ever you want and they will be renamed 'Italy' Italy(1) Italy(2) so on. That should hold their place when you burn them to disc as a slide show or what ever you do with them. There are probably other ways and I am sure someone will answer with another way to do it.

If you have already edited some of the images, the date may be the one of the edit.
When in the Windows Explorer, right-click on any one of the headers of the colums. In the pop-up, scroll down to "date taken" and checkmark that.
When the dates appear in your list, click on the "date taken" header and the dates will sort in order. Click again and they will sort in reverse order.

Good suggestion Esther!
This is one of the methods I have used in the past. It works.
